BOON MAKHABOUXA

This is a temple-based festival and it is held on the full-moon to commemorate the speech given by Buddha to 1,250 enlightened monks.

 

It is celebrated with chanting, offering and candlelit processions at temple.

Occurs in February

BOON VISAKHABOUXA

Falling usually on the fifteenth day of the sixth lunar month, this festival celebrates the birth, death and tatsahou (enlightenment) of Buddha.

Occurs in May

BOON

This temple centered festival cerebrate the birth of Prince Vessanthara, the Buddha's penultimate existance. The jataka or birth story of Buddha is recited.

 

This is the favored time for Lao men to become ordained as a monk.
